Iran’s feature to vie in Geneva

Iranian feature film ‘Yalda’ is to compete at the 2020 FIFDH festival in Geneva.

18th edition of the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) has selected Iranian feature ‘Yalda’ to go on screen in Geneva.

Written and directed by Masoud Bakhshi, ‘Yalda’ tells the story of Maryam Komijani, a young woman who has been sentenced to death for the murder of her husband. On Yalda Night, an ancient cultural festive marking the longest night of the year, she has been brought to a studio to be forgiven by the victim’s only daughter, Mona Ziya, during a live TV program.

But several incidents during the show and behind-the-scenes of the TV program get the two young women into a challenging situation to make a decision.

‘Yalda’ is starring Behnaz Jafari and Faqiheh Soltani.

The FIFDH is the leading international event dedicated to film and human rights. The festival runs two international competitions including fiction and documentary with the aim to offer a world-class selection of feature films that challenge the ways in which we see the world, in the presence of filmmakers and protagonists.

The FIFDH is scheduled for March 6-15, 2020 in Geneva.
